NBC News reports that counter-terrorism teams from the US Navy and Marine Corps are in Brazil, working directly with Brazilian Federal Police and their navy to protect US athletes and spectators at the Olympics.  Larger units are on call to perform rescue operations, even at a large scale if needed.

“The classified report outlines an operation that encompasses all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies, including those of the armed services, and involves human intelligence, spy satellites, electronic eavesdropping, and cyber and social media monitoring.”

Approximately 800 intelligence analysts operating from the US have been assigned to monitoring the Rio games. Reportedly, another 350 professionals from every military branch and intelligence agency are in Brazil. It’s partially personal for them each has athletes participating in the games, as well.
